The 6 Summer Whiskey Cocktails You Need to Know

The summer heat has already started rising, and you may want to try new cocktails that are more appropriate for the weather. What should you pour into your personalized engraved glasses for an elegant way to keep cool? Here are some of the popular options that use whiskey as a base.

The Simple, Refreshing Highball

One of the most refreshing cocktails available is also very simple to make. Get out your highball glasses etched with your custom logo or monogram and your favorite whiskey. Fill the glass with ice, whiskey, and either ginger ale or club soda. For the club soda, if you want to follow the traditional Japanese style, stir it clockwise 13 times. Otherwise, enjoy the carbonated cocktail.

A Frosty Mint Julep

The official drink of the Kentucky Derby, it’s a simple, bright cocktail perfect for summer. Using either Julep cups or your personalized whiskey glasses, muddle mint leaves in a quarter ounce of simple syrup. Then add 2 ounces bourbon and pack the glass with crushed ice. Stir until the glass is frosty. Release a mint sprig's oils by slapping it on back of your hand and use it as a garnish.

The Citrus Pop of a Stone Sour

The classic whiskey sour can be refreshing, but the Stone Sour ups the brightness ante by adding orange juice. Also known as the California Sour, the Stone Sour uses 1 and a half ounces bourbon, 1 ounce of simple syrup, three quarters of an ounce of lemon juice, and 1 ounce of orange juice. Shake it with ice, strain it into rocks glasses etched with your monogrammed initials and filled with ice, and garnish each with an orange slice and cherry.

A Modified French 95

This whiskey take on the French 75 is for when you want to be outside in the heat but stay elegant. Add 1 and a half ounces of bourbon, a half ounce of simple syrup, and 1 ounce lemon juice to a shaker with ice, strain it into personalized engraved glasses filled with ice to impress your guests, top with 2 and a half ounces of champagne, and garnish with a lemon peel.

A Sweet and Simple Gold Rush

This simple, delicious summer cocktail requires only three main ingredients. Make a simple syrup with equal parts honey and water. Let it cool and add three quarters of an ounce of the simple syrup with three quarters of an ounce lemon juice and 2 ounces bourbon to a shaker. Shake with ice, strain into a rocks glass with one giant ice sphere or cube and enjoy your sweet cocktail.

The Summery Irish Maid

The Irish Maid is summer distilled in a cocktail. While the original Kentucky Maid uses Kentucky bourbon and lemon, the Irish Maid uses muddled cucumber slices, 2 ounces Irish whiskey, a half ounce of elderflower liqueur, three quarters of an ounce of lemon juice, three quarters of an ounce of simple syrup, and a cucumber slice garnish. Muddle the cucumber, shake the rest of the ingredients in ice, and add ice to the rocks glass with the cucumber. Strain the shaker, and enjoy the floral, refreshing cocktail.

About Crystal Imagery

What started as a new hobby for Eric Schuchart in 2000, making custom engraved glasses, would later become much more. Making deeply engraved gifts for family and friends was, unbeknownst to him, the fledgling steps in creating Crystal Imagery. The gift receivers loved Schuchart’s work, which encouraged him to incorporate Crystal Imagery in 2013. Sherri Blum, an interior designer for celebrities, joined him as a business partner and co-founder. The company quickly expanded, moving from a family garage to a full 10,000 square-foot facility. What makes Crystal Imagery special is a deep-carving technique in the glass, creating a 3D relief in the glass you can feel and adding shadow and depth. This simply can’t be matched by traditional laser and rotary surface etchings. Crystal Imagery offers products including personalized whiskey glasses, decanters, highball glasses, champagne flutes, beer mugs, flasks, and more glassware. Indulge yourself with Crystal Imagery and add a touch of personalized elegance to your home bar.
